GST/HST Filing
GST/HST filing does not have to be stressful. We handle your returns accurately and on time, and make sure you claim every input tax credit you are entitled to.
GST/HST Filing Done Right
Collecting and remitting GST/HST is a requirement for most Canadian businesses, but the rules are not always straightforward. Filing frequency, input tax credits, exempt supplies, zero-rated goods. It adds up. At Synscape Solutions, we take the complexity off your plate.
What We Handle
Return Preparation & Filing
We prepare your GST/HST returns based on your bookkeeping records and file them electronically with the CRA. Whether you file monthly, quarterly, or annually, we ensure every return is accurate and submitted on time.
Input Tax Credit (ITC) Optimization
You are entitled to recover the GST/HST you pay on business expenses. We review your records to ensure every eligible ITC is claimed. Many businesses leave money on the table by missing legitimate credits.
Registration & De-registration
Not sure if you need to register for GST/HST? We help you determine your obligations and handle the registration process. If your business circumstances change, we manage de-registration as well.
CRA Correspondence
If the CRA has questions about your GST/HST filings, we respond on your behalf and provide all necessary documentation.
Filing Frequency
Your filing frequency depends on your annual revenue. We advise on the optimal filing frequency for your situation. Some businesses benefit from quarterly filing to improve cash flow, while others prefer annual filing for simplicity.
Annual revenue under $1.5M: You can file annually, quarterly, or monthly.
Annual revenue $1.5M to $6M: You must file quarterly or monthly.
Annual revenue over $6M: You must file monthly.
Common Mistakes We Prevent
Claiming ITCs on ineligible expenses (meals, entertainment limitations)
Missing the filing deadline and incurring penalties
Incorrect classification of exempt vs. taxable supplies
Not registering when revenue exceeds the $30,000 threshold
Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
When do I need to register for GST/HST?
You must register once your total revenue from taxable supplies exceeds $30,000 over four consecutive calendar quarters or in a single quarter. Voluntary registration before reaching this threshold is also an option and may be beneficial.
What are input tax credits?
Input tax credits (ITCs) allow you to recover the GST/HST you pay on purchases and expenses related to your business activities. For example, if you pay GST on office supplies, equipment, or professional services, you can claim those amounts back on your return.
What happens if I file late?
Late filing results in a penalty of 1% of the balance owing plus 0.25% for each full month the return is late, up to 12 months. Interest also accrues on any unpaid balance. We ensure your returns are filed on time to avoid these costs entirely.
Can you handle GST/HST for multiple businesses?
Yes. If you operate multiple businesses or have related entities, we manage GST/HST filings for each one and advise on the most efficient structure for your situation.
